The X Factor franchise originated from the United Kingdom and was meant as a replacement for the
outgoing program, Pop Idol. Their talent show primarily showcases singing talents within the country
and it has become so popular that several other countries wanted to adopted the show, its format and
it’s techniques. The rights, however, was difficult to obtain.
Former American Idol judge, Simon Cowell and his company Syco Tv is the executive producer of the
said television talent show. It was named “The X- factor” simply because, although they may showcase
singing talents most of the time, stage presence, dancing and that indefinable “something” is also
assessed to screen for Super stars in the Making! The format for the show is simple, the best performers
are pitted against each other and winners are selected from the last standing contestants. The most
coveted prize on the show is the recording contract! Those who join the show do not only relish the
prizes, but also the fame with being able to exhibit to the public their talents. Even the non- winners get
their celebrity status through simply appearing on the The X- factor. The runners up become so popular,
that they even get offers to sing in events & other engagements!
The creator of the X- Factor format is no one else but Simon Cowell who is also a judge and mentor
in the hit TV series. So far, this highly rated TV contest boasts of approximately 47 winners all over
the globe! Included in the ranks of their achievers is Leona Lewis who became an international singing
sensation. There are plenty of TV stations in several countries seeking to show the UK version of The X-
Factor, but the right to the UK show has been difficult to acquire because of legal issues.

The show may showcase not only the singing prowess of the contestants; it also looks over other

The show, despite its success, also had bumps along the road. In 2005, a lawsuit was filed against them
by the creator of Pop Idol, Simon Fuller for “copying” the format of Pop Idol, the decision of the court on
the legal issues of copyright rights was eagerly awaited upon by the media, however, the meeting was
adjourned and it was undisclosed on whether the two parties had an agreement out of court.

new host, Dermot O’ Leary, says that these two judges will be sorely missed and that their absence
will be felt most acutely, particularly with the lack of Simon’s highly acid and acerbic remarks ands
comments on the participant’s performance…and boy, no one can ever compare to Mr. Nasty’s
profound yet endearing insensitivity with regards to their contestant’s feelings. One has to admit
though, that Simon’s remakrs often hit home and that there is plenty of substance to his feedbacks.
With Simon and Cheryl gone to the US, X- Factor UK now has to “Top up their game” and continue with

Simon Cowell just won’t stop with American Idol! After leaving the said show, he has set to conquer
the world starting with UK using his talent search, The X Factor! And with that title in the bag, one
can expect that Simon and his co- judges are out not only to get the best in singing talents, but in star
quality as well! After all, in this show, the judges do not only judge the contestants, they also take part in
training these young hopefuls through a series of activities that will polish their contestant’s potentials
and boosts their marketability.
The areas being assessed in the judging will include Stage Presence, personality, appearance, singing
prowess, and of course, public opinion! The show has a 5 stages of screening, one is the producers
audition, another is the Judge’s audition, then they move on to Boot Camp, progress to the Judge’s
homes for further training, and ultimately, the final performance! The public’s opinion weight most as
the contestants are eliminated or voted in by the public, so far, the largest tally of votes was 10 million
votes in the UK!
The UK no longer has the monopoly on X- factor’s most famous judge though, as news of The X factor
USA breaks out, so does the rumors that Simon will be leaving the UK version of the show. Simon
Cowell, together with Ms. Cheryl Cole will be the main judges for the USA. This was a rumor that turned
out to be true. Blunt, arrogant, and downright mean as he may be, Simon will be very much missed
in the UK. Meanwhile, as the UK show grapples with the loss of their most loved yet hated judge, the
auditions for The X factor US are going full swing! They have even set up “audition booths” to maximize
the talents being screened for the talent show! The American audience is very eager to see if they will
have what it take to show the panel of judges, that they too, have that X- factor!

best singing talents in the UK! It’s format has been conceptualized by former American Idol judge, Simon

This show has an interesting format that makes it so much more different from its other shows. Its main
difference lies in the judges’ function. The X- factor judges do not only sit back and relax to watch the
contestants perform, they mentor these people to become the best singer they can be!
The X- Factor is one talent show that cannot be held in just one location, it has become so popular that
it is broadcasted in different Television stations worldwide, and just recently, they have made US one of
their turfs as some of their original Judges, Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole, flew over to American soil to
see if America has what it takes to impress the judges for the X- factor.
Auditions have been held in a total of five cities, with another one to be held in Dallas, Texas. So far,
each audition has received hordes of hopefuls and the latest auditionee count was a whopping 56, 000!
What makes this show more appealing to the masses is that the show will not only make you famous, it
will definitely get you rich big time with a $5 million recording contract with Syco/ Sony Music. It’s a very
appealing apple for everyone wishing to showcase their talent and reap all the rewards for being the
final champion for the X Factor! Of course, these hopefuls will definitely be receiving an earful from the
Mr. Nasty himself, Simon Cowell, but it will be worth all the pain and effort if they do bag the gold!
