This is a show guaranteed to keep you on the edge of your seats with its unexpected twists and turns
and unconventional plot. It’s a refreshing change from the reality show trend in the media today and the
superficial, albeit beautifully inspiring fashion shows available on TV.
The Mentalist follows Patrick Jane’s efforts to find the serial killer named Red John who killed his wife
and young daughter, the murder of his family appears to be retaliation for mocking the said serial killer
on live national TV. He used to earn as a lucrative and well renowned psychic (which, by the way, was
just a pretence) prior to the killings. Patrick Jane then dumped his lucrative career as a psychic and
joined California’s Bureau of Investigation as a consultant in charge of searching for the said serial killer.
This, he hoped would bring him closer to the person who murdered his family.
Patrick Jane is the ‘mentalist’ referred to in the series title, and the character has certainly lived up to
the term’s expectations with his exceptional gift for analysis and observation and mentalist tricks, he is
also devious, arrogant, and sometimes childish. The show highlights his efforts working for the CBI in the
most unique, unconventional, and sometimes, illegal methods. The team leader in which Patrick Jane
was included, is often on the receiving end of the innumerable reprimands and censure to which Patrick
Jane is usually accountable. As the show progresses, Patirck Jane became an indispensable member of
the team searching the serial killer, Red John, with most of the team members looking up to him for his
magnificent observations, strategies, traps, and ingenious judgment.
The show also revealed that, despite appearing as charming and playful, he has a darker side when
it comes down to hunting Red John. He becomes more serious, driven, and focused. The Mentalist is
definitely one rollercoaster ride that will leave you wanting more!
